After successfully launching a few phones in the market, the Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi, will launch a laptop model in August. Rumors say that the laptop will have 15.6” display, as well as Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia Geforce GT 660M GPU, 8GB of RAM and 1080p (full HD) screen resolution.
A quick look at its brief specs sheet tells us that the laptop packs powerful hardware. One noteworthy thing about the laptop is not the loads of RAM or 1080p full HD display, but rather the unique skin placed on top of the operating system. The MIUI skin is known as one most desirable and beautiful custom overlay in the smartphone industry.
GizChina says the laptop will use Linux with MIUI skin on top, with some modifications for laptop users obviously. It should be interesting to see how the good-looking skin will work on a laptop. Another thing that doesn’t seem to add up is the use of Nvidia Geforce GT660M, GPU, which won’t see much use in Linux-based environment. However, users may have the opportunity to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 with dual-boot configuration.
