Sony Vaio SV-E1511V1EW Review

Although made entirely of plastic, the Sony SV-E1511V1EW generally gives firm impression with its relatively sturdy casing. There’s only one USB 3.0 port and the other two are slower USB 2.0 ports. Users planning to connect themselves to larger display should appreciate the availability of HDMI output port and legacy VGA out port. There are also Gigabit Ethernet, DVD burner and SD card slot.

The chiclet-style keyboard of SV-E1511V1EW should deliver pleasing typing experience. At 15mm x 15mm, the keys are reasonably sized and they have recognizable pressure point. The 15.6” HD LED-illuminated display is barely usable outdoors due to the low brightness and the use of glossy panel. When used outdoors, it’s necessary to find shaded places where no direct sunlight falls on the display.

The laptop is designed for multimedia purposes, but also usable for typical daily usages such as web browsing and productivity tasks. The Intel Core i5 3210 dual-core processor is clocked dynamically between 2.5 and 2.9GHz. The Seagate Momentus Spinpoint 750GB 5400rpm HDD offers lower mid-range performance of 66MB/s. The AMD Radeon HD 7650M GPU only allows smooth gaming when playing latest games at low-medium detail settings.
