The Samsung 355E5C-S02DE looks rather appealing with its matte display, good keyboard layout, low operational temperature, spacious hard drive and 2-year warranty. But it still leaves us with mixed feelings. Despite using an AMD APU, the laptop fails to deliver satisfactory power consumption.

As a comparison, other budget laptops powered by AMD E2-1800 are capable of achieving more reasonable battery runtimes, especially when left in idle mode. Samsung’s decision to use the dedicated Radeon HD 7470M GPU doesn’t seem to make much sense, as it doesn’t offer significant performance improvement over the built-in Radeon HD 7340M.

Connectivity options include two USB 3.0 ports, USB 2.0 ports, VGA out port, Gigabit Ethernet, audio jack, microSD card reader, DVD burner and WiFi. Samsung adds a 15.6” matte HD display that offers acceptable brightness level. The TN panel causes the display to distort easily based on changes in vertical orientation. The 750GB Hitachi Travelstar 5K750 hard drive offers plenty of room for large multimedia files.
