Asus VivoBook U38DT-R3001H Review

Asus NotebookThe Asus VivoBook U38DT-R3001H is a stylish and lightweight subnotebook at only 1.55kg. For a 20mm thick notebook, the Asus VivoBook U38DT-R3001H offers reasonable performance level. Users would easily praise the metal thin case for its durability and it hardly yields under high pressure. On the right side, there are power socket, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out port, mini VGA out port and audio jack. A card reader and another USB 3.0 port can be found on the left side. Available wireless connectivity options include WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0.

The dark-grey chiclet keyboard would leave us with a good overall impression, with its acceptable pressure point, adjustable backlighting and proper key lettering. At 16 x 14mm, each key should feel convenient for many users, although the F-row keys and arrow keys are a bit too small. In the end, Asus VivoBook U38DT-R3001H should be a laptop suitable for any frequent writer.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing spectacular with the 13.3 (1366 x 768) display and the conventional TN panel suffers from poor vertical viewing angles. The main storage unit is a Seagate 500GB 5400rpm hard drive. The AMD A8 4555M processor is clocked between 1.6 and 2.4GHz based on demand. It is adequate for moderate office tasks, while the integrated Radeon HD 7600G GPU is can satisfy common multimedia and graphics editing requirements. Serious gamers should avoid the Asus VivoBook U38DT-R3001H as it barely reaches 20fps when running The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at high detail settings.
