Asus S56CM Review

Asus Ultrabook LaptopThe Asus S56CM is a 700 Euro ultrabook with slim design with good cooling system and stylish aluminum-based design. The casing immediately suggests impressive robustness and pleasant handling. However, the lid doesn’t seem to close securely and owners should take this fact into consideration when carrying the laptop.

The Asus S56CM copes quite well in connectivity category with one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet port, VGA out, HDMI out and audio jack. Kensington lock and DVD burner are located on the right side, as usual. The laptop should please users with its keyboard, which offer low-noise typing. However, the lack of defined feedback and short key drop may disappoint more prolific typists.

The machine offers 15.6” display with 1366 x 768 resolution, which brings a rather limited virtual desktop space and relatively low resolution. Under the hood, there’s an energy-efficient Intel Core i5 3317U processor and Nvidia Gefore GT 635M GPU. It also has 500GB of hard disk as main storage unit and Sandisk’s 24GB SSD for cache to boost the performance further. Gaming performance is decent with Crysis 2 reaching 30fps at high detail settings.
