The launch of Windows 8 tablets may mark the end of netbook with 10” display. While Asus, Acer and HP continue to sell netbooks, other PC makers stopped selling them due to huge decline in sales. Asus still doesn’t unveil plans for new Eee PC models with Windows 8, Asus seems to shift focus to a larger netbook with 11.6” display and HP no longer sells 10” netbook on its online store page.
10” display is limited to only 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, while Windows requires at least 1024 x 768. No PC makers will ship products with Windows 7 and Windows 8 will require much better display. All told, we could start to see more netbook with 11.6” (1366 x 768) display in 2013 to better support Windows 8 with its higher requirements. Many of these machines will also have touchscreen display to complement traditional pointing devices, such as mouse.
