The Toshiba Satellite S955D-S5150 is slimmer and sturdier than the earlier S955D model, although it still uses the predominantly plastics materials on specific areas. The surface doesn’t flex as much as before and the hinges do a good job in keeping the display lid in its place.
Toshiba treats us with two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI out, VGA out and the usual assortments of sockets. Unfortunately, typing can still be a lackluster experience, since the keyboard delivers a muted sense of feedback, mushy keys and inadequate travel distance.
The display also looks dimmer than the previous model, but contrast and color reproductions. Like any TN-based panels, the vertical viewing angles can be rather horrendous, although it feels bearable at horizontal axis. The Toshiba Satellite S955D-S5150 struggles in brighter environment with its reflective and glossy display.
The mid-range AMD A8 4555M processor is a low-voltage model with 19W TDP, with similar energy consumption compared to Intel’s ULV models, but slightly slower, Toshiba outfits the laptop with the standard 1TB 5400rpm HDD, which performs quite well in its category. The integrated AMD Radeon HD 7600G isn’t particularly fast and it is roughly comparable with Intel Graphics HD 4000, delivering smooth gaming performance at only low-medium detail settings.
