The OS X Mavericks 10.9 is looming in the horizon, but Apple still manages to roll out another minor update to the current OS X Mountain Lion. The new version 10.8.5 offers performance improvements and fixes to various glitches. The update is compatible to all MacBook with OS X 10.8.4 as well as the new Haswell-equipped MacBook Air.

There’s a fix to bugs that prevent Mail from showing messages and cause screensavers to start automatically without user interaction. File transfer performance using the 802.11ac WiFi should be improved. Now, it will also be faster to transfer large files over the Ethernet and authenticate to Open Directory servers.

All improvements of Software Update 1.0 for mid MacBook Air are included in the 10.8.5 update. Mac OS X users in the United Kingdom can upgrade their device to the 10.8.5 version by choosing the Updates tab in the App Store app.
