Like other ProBook laptops, the HP ProBook 4540s is also an entry-level business netbook. The ProBook 4540s is a direct enhancement over the earlier ProBook 4530. It still shares the same visual appearance, with chassis made from plastic. The ProBook 4540s is slightly curvier and similar in terms of stability compared to its direct predecessor.
As a business device, the ProBook 4540s comes with obligatory security features such as Kensington lock and fingerprint reader. The HP ProtectTools software adds another layer of security. Early batches of ProBook 4540s run Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but it is possible to install Windows 8. The ProBook 4540s has a matte 15.6” display with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and a brightness level of 211 cd/m2. The laptop is powered with an Intel Core i3-3110M dual-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz.
It should operate smoothly for most tasks, with very rare delays and lockups. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU supports DirectX 11, which is adequate for casual gaming.
