As what we had expected after its introduction in the gaming console market, Microsoft Kinect will eventually see an integration with future laptop models. In an Envisioning Center, Microsoft set up a number of Kinect powered demonstrators, which take advantage of the motion-based technology in various shapes and forms.
One obstacle for implementation on laptop is making the technology compact enough for portable uses. The current Kinect sensor also doesn’t work under broad daylights, which limits its uses on mobile devices somewhat. Kinect relies significantly on infra red and sun as the largest infra red source in the solar system drowns the real signal used by the sensor.
Consequently, we may not be going to see a practical implementation in coming months, but it will happen eventually. The software giant is showing focus and commitment to bring the technology closer to mobile users. As we are seeing a clear path towards this direction, it’s still safe to be hopeful.
