Asus VivoBook S550CM-CJ038H Ultrabook Review

The Asus VivoBook S550CM-CJ038H is a touch-capable ultrabook, which is both elegant and stylish. The 15.6” HD touchscreen display is generally responsive with decent detection of multiple touches. The tile-based interface of Windows 8 OS is very convenient to use. Nevertheless, mouse and keyboard are favorable input devices if the classic Windows GUI is selected, due to small icons represented. Consequently, some users may argue that the touchscreen is just a superfluous accessory.

Asus should have selected screen with better quality as its colors reproduction, contrast and brightness level leave plenty of room for improvement. Nevertheless, users would find the chassis acceptable with its slim build and elegant design. Users won’t find anything surprising under the hood.

The Intel Core i5 3317U dual-core processor is a very common component used on ultrabooks. A small 24GB Kingston SSD helps the larger 500GB Hitachi HDD to deliver chunks of data speedily. Complex graphics computations are taken care of by the Nvidia GT 635M allowing Crysis 2 to reach the near-smooth 29fps at high detail settings.
