AMD tops off its high-end laptops graphics cards lineup, the Radeon HD 8000M series with a new GPU model. With 1,280 stream processors, ticking at 850MHz and GDDR5 video memory that run at 1.2GHz, the AMD Radeon 8970M is truly intended for serious gaming.
AMD touts the 8970M 144GFLOPS for double precision performance and 2.3TFLOPS for single precision floating point performance. It has support for DirectX 11.1 and benchmarks show significant performance edge compared to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M. However, it appears that Nvidia’s mobile refresh won’t be too far off.
The new graphics card model with make a debut in MSI GX70 gaming notebook. The laptop will be powered with an AMD A10 APU and the 8970M GPU; and should perform well on the 17” full HD display. There’s also support for the multi-display technology, to be specific the AMD Eyefinity. Given the amount of power available, the GX70 may support the multi-display gaming capability.
