What to Choose? Laptops or Tablets?

Laptop and TabletThe expansive popularity of tablets and hybrids has sparked a furious debate among users over whether we should ditch our old-fashioned laptops. Granted, tablets are more portable and when docked, they offer complete laptop-like interfaces. They surely have the edge for users who are always on the move.

The release of tablets with full-fledged Windows 8 OS, makes decision-making process more complicated for those planning to upgrade their laptops. However, good x86-based tablets are considerably more expensive than laptops that have similar performance level. Laptops also have bigger displays, which make works more enjoyable and easier.

In general, consumers should upgrade to Windows 8 hybrids only when they require basic productivity and computing tasks. These are a few examples to consider:

  • Samsung ATIV Smart PC: A great choice for artists, as it has a WACOM stylus that supports 1,024 pressure levels.
  • Acer Iconia W510: It has a touch display that can rotate 180 degrees, but the Intel Atom 1.8GHz dual-core processor is somewhat underpowered for a Windows 8 machine.
  • HP Envy X2: It is somewhat heavier than the competing models, but comes with an HDMI out dock.
