The stylish design of the laptop makes the 15z deserves its ultrabook title. The brushed aluminum surface not only feels and looks good, it also emphasizes the premium characteristics of the laptop.

There are DVD burner, one USB 3.0 port and full-size SD card reader on the right side and audio jack, another USB 3.0 port. HDMI out port, RJ 45 LAN socket, Kensington slot and AC jack on the left side. The Dell Inspiron 15z has a keyboard with standard chiclet style. The 3mm gap between keys is sufficient to prevent typo and the clear pressure point allows convenient typing. The 15.6” (1366 x 768) display uses 16:9 format, which has acceptable viewing angles.

Colors remain relatively undistorted up to 45 degrees horizontally, but they begin to fade even at a small vertical angle, which is typical for a TN panel. The Dell Inspiron 15z is both a decent productivity and gaming machine with 1.7GHz Intel Core i5 3317U dual core processor and Nvidia GeForce 630M GPU. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can easily reach 28fps with high detail settings.
