Asus VivoBook S500CA-DS51T Review

With its relatively low starting price and touchscreen display, the Asus VivoBook S500CA offers a good incentive for ultrabook users. Like its sibling, the Asus Q500A, the laptops also offers reasonable build quality and slim design profile. The accessible SODIMM slot and hard disk drive allow users to upgrade with faster SSD and more RAM down the line.

The touchscreen display feels like a pleasant added bonus for an ultrabook priced at $699. (Approx. £450) The laptop also has decent display backlight and battery life, which are slightly above the competitors. Outdoor usages are limited only under the shade and the non-removable battery would prove to be restrictive as users travel away from the grid power.

There are various processor options available, Intel 1.8GHz Core i3 3217U, 1.7GHz Core i5 3317U and 1.9GHz Core i7 3517U. A 2GB DDR3 RAM is soldered into one slot and users can access another free RAM slot that supports up to 4GB of RAM. The main storage unit is the 500GB Hitachi Travelstar Z5K and the SanDisk U100 SSD is used for caching only.
