Many would argue that netbooks are dead; as consumers are more likely to buy ultrabooks and tablets. To stop current netbook users from migrating to other platforms, Asus has released the VivoBook S200E, which includes interesting features such as Windows 8 OS and touchscreen display. Priced at 550 Euro, it is definitely more pricey than typical Windows 7, non-touch laptops; but still much cheaper than any touch-capable ultrabook.
The netbook is made mostly of solid, brushed aluminum material, instead of plastic chassis. This contributes to the great stability and durability of the entire unit. The black chiclet keyboard integrates seamlessly into the chassis, which further accentuates the high-quality impression of the device. Windows 8 OS is well optimized for touch operations, which provides a heightened level of productivity. The 11.6” WXGA touchscreen display is unnecessarily a gimmick; as users can complete some tasks faster compared with keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately, the Asus VivoBook S200E is marred by disturbing reflections when used outdoors.
The Asus VivoBook S200E is powered with 1.8GHz Intel Core i3-3217U processor, with 17 Watts TDP. As an ULV model, the processor is noticeably less powerful than standard Core i3 models, but it should be enough for any netbook user.
