Asus surprised us all at CES with a laptop prototype using 2880 x 1620 IPS display. Consequently, many have expected that the company will release a Windows 8 ultrabook with Retina-like capability. However, it is Asus that launches such a device for the first time. The company has just updated its Zenbook UX51VZ with a new kind of display. Its 15.6” display now has 2880 x 1620 pixel resolution, resulting in Retina-like pixel density of 221 ppi.
Other components are still similar such as Intel Core i7 3632QM processor, 8GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 650M GPU, 256/512GB SSD, three USB 3.0 ports, DVD burner, 19mm thick aluminum chassis and HD webcam. Despite the larger screen resolution, Asus promises similar battery life. The notebook is now available from Amazon Germany for 1,700 Euro (256GB SSD) and 2,000 Euro (512 SSD). We will surely see the laptop displayed at Computex Taiwan .
